About Me

I am a wildlife and theatrical photographer based in the Durham Dales, in North East England.

My interest in nature probably started when I won a creative writing competition when I was at junior school, and with the resulting prize (a £1.50 book token) I purchased a treasured tome on natural history – a book which I still have today, some 50 years later, albeit in a somewhat dogeared state now!

Cue various books, particularly the original observers book of birds and various other bird guides, and my interest grew.

Real life happened, but the beauty of my local area continued to inspire me, but as I grew older I decided to re-evaluate my priorities and throw myself headlong into wildlife photography, something which is especially rewarding as I learn the habits and movements of the animal or bird I am trying to photograph. I only publish shots taken in the wild, and have no interest in photographing animals in captivity.

My interest in theatrical photography happened by accident, as my daughter and her husband are involved in amateur theatrical productions in the local area – I find it to be especially rewarding, with many similar challenges to wildlife photography….low light, fast movement, split second decision making.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to know more about my work, to discuss a project, or to commission me to photograph a theatrical production.
