Gear
This page contains details of the gear I use to photograph, edit and print my images.
Camera Bodies
Sony Alpha One – this is currently my camera of choice – fantastic autofocus, speed, customisation, dynamic range and much much more make this the perfect camera for wildlife photography. I am currently working on a setup guide with my settings and reasoning which I will publish in the coming months. I purchased it in February 2022.
Sony a6400 – this is my back up camera, though I rarely use it these days.
Lenses
Sony 200-600mm G – my main lens for wildlife photography. It is rarely off my camera body!
Sony 1.4 Teleconverter – because all wildlife photographers need extra reach from time to time. It works extremely well with the Sony A1.
Tamron 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD – a great mid-range zoom lens for when the wildlife gets too close, or for low light situations. This is also a great Street Photography lens.
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 – a great “general purpose” lens for landscape photography. The wide aperture is excellent for low light situations.
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD – a wide angle lens to supplement the 28-75.
Editing
I always shoot in RAW, so when editing images I use a custom built PC (built by me), running Adobe Lightroom. Adobe Photoshop and Topaz Photo AI. I use a trusty LG 32″ monitor, calibrated with a Datacolor SpyderX Pro.
Printing
I use a Canon image PROGRAF PRO-300 printer, and Canon Pro Luster Paper to print my images. I always use the correct paper profile.
Mounts
I mount my images using a mount with aperture an appropriate for the image size in Ice White, together with an Ice White back board. The mountboard I use is 1.4mm FSC Certified Acid Free. I use the T-Hinge method, with Acid Free mounting tape. Mounts are attached to the backing board using the top edge only to minimise the chance of warping in the future.
Prints are stored in clear bags.
